Together we can turn tides

by Jeroen van de Waal

Seeing first-hand what is happening to our planet made me ask myself: “What kind of planet, and legacy, do I want to leave for my children?” I’ve been inspired to take action and, in my own way, to try to inspire others to do the same. As I say in the video above, if not you, then who? If not now, then when?

Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something. I hope reading this book will enlighten you about some of the things many of us would rather not know. The time to take action really is now. I hope one day our paths might cross, and together we can make positive footprints. Jeroen van de Waal

If not you, then who? If not now, then when?

Narrated by the author, the short film above describes some of the most pressing issues faced by the planet’s oceans: pollution, habitat destruction, overfishing, marine mammal eradication, the devastation to shark and ray populations, and much more. Working alone, nobody can solve this, but everybody is capable of doing something. Together, just possibly, we can restore balance and turn the tide.

Download the opening chapter of ``Together We Can Turn Tides - A Manifesto to Save the Ocean, Planet and Ourselves.`` This book does not present any groundbreaking research, but it does compile many of the facts that exist into one, easy-to-consume summary, aimed at teaching the young and educating the old about why our oceans are in trouble. With this book we hope to mobilise an army of ocean ambassadors, who together can bring our oceans back from the brink of destruction.
